@ClintScoles

Here is a quick link to many good Royals podcast, chats and articles over the last week.

Kevin Goldstein had a chat at Baseball Prospectus, here are some of his Royals quotes: Salvador Perez will be a .280/.320/.400 type catcher with plus D. ¬†That’s one hell of a player he said. ¬†There were plenty of questions in the chat about Lorenzo Cain, John Lamb, Jorge Bonifacio and D’Andre Toney who he said¬†has some potential. He’s tiny, but he can fly and he can hit a little bit. ¬†Link to BP Chat

If you want great podcast info about the Royals and the rest of the AL Central then the Baseball America Podcast from 1/13/12 is a can’t miss. ¬†Royals info starts around 50 minutes in. ¬†Baseball America Podcast

MLB.com released a video with Mike Montgomery from 1/14/12, checkout what Montgomery has to say about last year and the upcoming season.  MLB.com Chat

Here at Pine Tar Press we’ve added plenty of new writers in the last few months in anticipation of our addition to the Blackout Blog Network (please checkout other blogs on the network). ¬†Here are some of the articles by the new guys¬†Ty Youngfelt, Marcus Ruiz and Paul York’s work as well as Levi’s great new piece about his love of baseball.

Thursday we continued our Fan Chat series here are a few of the quotes that came from Kyle Smith and Bryan Brickhouse:
Brickhouse: I had a set number and if they offered it i knew i would go pro.  I would be going to college with the new CBA.

Their personal scouting reports and what they need to work on:
BBrickhouse: I think i have good stuff just need to figure a few things out to be great.  BBrickhouse: pitch more down, need to figure out change up.  A change up is something you really have to trust. throwing it like a fastball is honestly the hardest part for me to trust in it

KyleTSmith: Wow, good question haha, I pound the zone with my fastball, have good secondary, but still need to learn to control a 3rd pitch better. Aslo learn a little more about the mental game of it

Comment From PREGNANT ROLLERSKATE¬†Were you Long Tossers in High School (how far) & what are the Royal’s stance on you Long Tossing?
BBrickhouse: I long tossed 2 days before i pitched. about 150 to 200 ft, Knapp encourages to do long toss.
KyleTSmith: I was a long tosser, i love it, and would throw from the fence to the foul line, the Royals do long toss to but only up to 180 feet or so but if you want to, they allow you to go further if you want.

Which is your preferred grip on the fastball. Two or four seam and why?

BBrickhouse: Two seam for me. It has movement and i actually throw it harder and control it better than my 4 seam
KyleTSmith: Four seam, i have great control of it and throw it to both sides well

About The Author

Clint Scoles

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that. I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
