Omaha Storm Chasers 8 New Orleans Zephyrs 5
The Chasers spotted New Orleans 5 runs early but then turned on the offense and dusted off another opponent at home. It was Wil Myers getting things started with his 25th home run of the year driving in Johnny Giavotella and lowering the deficit to 5-2. The Chasers would continue to put the foot down on the pedal in the fourth scoring four runs including a two run home run by Lorenzo Cain in his first rehab game in Omaha. The Chasers took the lead 6-5 with the big fourth but would not stop their tacking on a run in the fifth with a sac fly and another in the 8th with a Giavotella single to drive in Derrick Robinson. While the offense was leading its way to a win starter Jake Odorizzi had one of his most difficult starts of the year succumbing to a 3rd inning exit following a big fourth inning by the Zephyrs thanks to a couple Chasers errors. The Royals have a rule within the organization that a pitcher is removed after encountering a 35 pitch inning and while I don’t know if that was the reason Odorizzi was pulled he was at 33 pitches so that is my guess. The bullpen did a outstanding job after Jake left getting 6 shutout innings from Blaine Hardy (3 innings), Jeremy Jeffress (2) and a Brandon Sisk.

Potomac Nationals 7 Wilmington Blue Rocks 4
The return of Elisaul Pimentel to the Carolina league didn’t go quite as well as he had hoped I’m sure as the right-hander got knocked around for 7 runs on 6 hits Wednesday night. Â After pitching most of the year in the Texas league Pimentel returned to Wilmington to stay active and get innings during their break likely expecting a breeze through the pitching safe league but things didn’t go his way, giving up a run in all five innings he appeared in. Â The Rocks offense got plenty of help from the Nationals defense who committed 3 errors on the day to help Wilmington towards their four runs but it wasn’t enough for Wilmington since they were only able to collect fine singles on the day.

Kane County Cougars 3 Beloit Snappers 1
Solid pitching lead the way for the Cougars to avoid a sweep at the hands of Beloit. Â Starter Angel Baez wasn’t perfect, walking four, but he finagled his way out of trouble in the first and second before getting help to get out of a mini jam in the fifth. Â A leadoff double to start the game put Baez in a bit a jam to open the game but the hard throwing right-hander was able to get out of it thanks to a one out double play turned by the middle infield. Â Another runner would get into scoring position in the second with a two out single and another walk issued by Baez but a strikeout would end that inning. Â He wouldn’t encounter any problems again until the sixth when reliever Rudy Brown would help Baez get around a leadoff double by getting a strikeout to finish off the inning. Â A Beloit error and a Alex Llanos double helped Kane to 2 runs in the fifth inning followed by a Daniel Mateo triple and Julio Aparicio single in the 8th for another run which would be enough for the win.

Burlington Royals 4 Bluefield Blue Jays 3
The Royals muscled up for a win Wednesday. Â The Royals got a gift run in the 3rd thanks to a pair Jays errors that allowed Mark Threlkeld to reach, advance to second and eventually come around on the second error, both error were committed by shortstop Dickie Thon. Â That early run would be the only tally on the Royals board until the 7th when back to back home runs by Patrick Leonard and Kenny Diekroeger turned a 3-1 deficit into a 3-3 tie. Â Diekroeger’s was his first since joining the Royals and was a opposite field shot that hit the scoreboard. Â Tied at 3 in the 8th speedster Terrance Gore would execute a squeeze bunt that would score Cam Connor and allow the Royals to win by the narrowest of margins.

Idaho Falls Chukars 4 Ogden Raptors 2
Solid pitching lead the way to a series win over first place Ogden. Â Starter Ali Williams lasted six innings, working around three singles and pair of walks to give up just 2 runs for his first win of the season. Â While Williams was okay reliever Alec Mills was outstanding working around a defensive error, one of his own mistakes (HBP) and a walk allowed by striking out four in his 3 innings to earn his second save of the season. Â Williams and Mills earned the win thanks to a pair of runs in on Nick Cuckovich’s two run single in the sixth and a insurance run by the offense in the 9th. Â Shortstop Adalberto Mondesi continued his hot start going 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Clint, in your mind, are Rookie League players not included in hitter/pitcher of the day? I assume you saw Melgar’s outing and either you view Hardy’s as superior (doubtful) or that he’s so far below the radar that it isn’t worth noting – just curious?
