July 2nd Prospect Profile Elier Hernandez

Download PDFJorge Arangure tweeted that Dominican prospect Elier Hernandez is working with the Royals on a July 2nd deal. Hernandez is one of the top Dominican prospects this year and is a big fish in the Dominican group as a possible 5 tool outfielder in the future.

Hernandez compares his game to Andruw Jones while playing Centerfield like the former Atlanta Brave phenom.  Elier played in the DPL last season but switched over to the newly formed IPL this year.  This is the type of big splash that I said I would like to see the Royals make expect more to come with the budget that Dayton Moore has available to him by the departure of Gil Meche.

    I don’t think it would prevent them because Hernandez is only 16 as opposed to Bubba but I think they have their eyes on pitching more than Bubba. Things could change if some of the pitchers they want don’t fall to them.

    if the royals are able to sign hernandez, i wonder if they would not want to pick up starling

    This would be AWESOME! He’s a top Dominican prospect who could be our Andruw Jones. And from watching his video he can swing the bat it looks like. To get him would be like getting another first round pick. Thank you Gil Meche.

    And then if we could get a few more of these July 2nd kids, we can focus a lot more on the premium pitching talent in the draft and use international kids for position guys and US NCAA kids as arms (or some of the HS kids).
