July 2nd Dominican Prospects to lookout for
A listing of some of the top prospects in the Dominican that the Royals might look at besides Elier Hernandez. Â While the Hernandez rumor was nice this isn’t the MLB Draft and until the Royals ink a player and get his age authenticated by MLB they aren’t delivered to the Royals. Â That being said it seems like the Royals are very active in the market which is something they need to be considering there is a chance of a major league slotting system coming during the next draft.
We know the Royals love athleticism, middle infielders and bloodlines but is there a player that can fit all three?
Raul Alberto Mondesi - the son of the former Dodger outfielder by the same name he is a speedy switch hitting shortstop who can run in the 6.6-6.8 range while possessing a average arm currently. Â While currently he looks rail thin if his fathers bloodlines kick in he’ll thicken up and that arm could become a weapon like his fathers. Â Originally born in Los Angeles the transition to the United States is nothing compared to what other Dominican prospects have to deal with.
Carlos Beloni – Son of a major leaguer Carlos also fits the profile as well as also being American born any adjustment should be easy for Carlos. Â He is said to have speed and gap power currently.
The Royals drafted Jack Lopez his profile fits along with these two.
The Royals haven’t been big spenders on pitching internationally with the exception of Noel Arguelles but as a team that has spent significant time scouting the two prospect leagues this year maybe that will change. While the Royals haven’t been big spenders they have added significant amounts of talent via the international market expect plenty of pitchers even if they don’t land one of these big fish.
Asencio has shown a low 90s fastball with the ability to spin a breaking ball.
Jeffrey Martes – Pitched 88-92 while traveling with the DPL All Stars as well as showing a ability to throw a curveball.
Manuel Gonzalez – Top IPL pitcher already hitting mid 90s with his big 6’4 205 frame.
Franklyn Pimentel – Throws 88-92 with the ability to hold that 92 mph late into games. Â Very big 6’4 210 lbs
I’ve already mentioned Ronald Guzman, Franmil Reyes in other articles but there are a couple other names that you could be on the lookout for in the outfield.
Helsin Martinez – won the DPL Power Showcase HR derby despite being a member of the IPL. Â He shows plus plus raw power and great speed as well.
Manuel Marcos – More of your prototypical speedy centerfielder Marcos has a solid arm, speed and good hitting ability. Â He could add power as he fills out.
Both direcctors of operations in the DPL and IPL mentioned that the Royals have been very active this season. The Royals may not land any of these names but I do expect them to bring home quite a few names from that region of the world.
