NW Arkansas Naturals 5 Arkansas Travelers 4
A pair of home runs paved the way for Mike Montgomery’s first AA win of the season. Â Despite the win the struggles continued for Montgomery with the left-hander walking four and giving up five hits in his 6.1 innings while striking out just one. Â That was enough for the Naturals in this one though thanks to a John Whittleman two run home run in the 1st and Brian Fletcher’s sixth home run since moving to AA, a three run home run that pushed the Naturals lead to 5-2. Â New closer Juan Guterrez finished off the 9th for his first save of the year striking out 2.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2 Wilmington Blue Rocks 1
Well you can’t ask the Rocks to give Jason Adam back to back wins despite the fact that the big starter was definitely good enough to win Thursday. Â Adam gave the Rocks 7 quality innings allowing just two hits, a walk and two runs on likely his only mistake of the game a two run home run by Santiago Chirino but it wasn’t enough with the Rocks offense mustering just one hit and one run. Â The Rocks offense was limited to just that one hit by Kyle Hendricks as the former Dartmouth right-hander put 8 Rocks away via K while giving up just two walks and that lone RBI double to Murray Watts. Â The loss moved Jason’s record to 2-10 on the season.

Idaho Falls Chukars 4 Helena Brewers 3
The Chukars broke their four game losing streak thanks to an outstanding start from 2nd round pick Sam Selman. Â The left-hander striking out over 11 per 9 coming into the game stepped it up a bit further putting down 10 in six innings while earning 5 groundouts and just 2 fly outs while giving up just a pair of hits and walks with just one run crossing. Â Selman’s numbers prove he is just a bit too much for this level striking out over 30% of the hitters he faces and creating 75% ground balls on the balls hitters do make contact with but I suspect he stays in Idaho to control his innings. Â While Selman was dominating the offense launched a pair of long balls by Nic Cuckovich and Jin-Ho Shin to account for three of the teams four runs to earn their starter his third win of the season.

Burlington Royals 4 Danville Braves 3
While most of the teams in the Royals system have been struggling the rookie level Royals have been winning and winning some more as winners of ten of their last eleven games while extending their current win streak to four. Â Royals Bubba Starling got them on the board in the first inning Thursday with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Â Speedster Terrance Gore got the offense moving in the second driving in Mark Threlkeld with his second triple of the year scoring later in the inning on a sac fly by shortstop Humberto Arteaga. Â The Braves cut that lead to 3-1 with a run in the 4th but Threlkeld was back at it in the bottom half of the inning reaching third on his second triple of the year and eventually coming home on an Arteaga single to push the Royals up 4-1. Â Those runs would be enough as four different Royals pitchers held the Braves to six hits and 3 runs, pushing the Royals lead in the division over Danville to 2 games.

It’s nice to see Colon back in a lineup. It seems like he was out for awhile. Hopefully he gets back to AA soon enough. He needs to make the move to 2B, and be ready for a mid 2013 callup.
Selman is tearing up Idaho Falls. He probably needs to be pitching at Low A, but I understand the innings count. He is almost 22 though, so might be 26 before he debuts. This is part of the reason I don’t like drafting college players.

Foot injury has missed quite a bit of time.

Ok did I miss something, why is Christian Colon in Arizona?
