Elizabethton Twins 4 Burlington Royals 3 F/11
The Royals missed an opportunity to win the Appy League championship Sunday when they fell in extra innings to the Twins. Â Burlington had built a 3-0 lead in their usual Bomb squad fashion getting a two run home run from Bubba Starling and a solo shot by Fred Ford but could not put any more runs on the board. Â Without any insurance the Twins tied that game in the 6th on a Max Kepler home run off starter Yender Caramo. Â The game would remain tied until the 11th when reliever Ben Thomchick uncorked a wild pitch with the bases loaded to allow the game winning run to score. Â The two teams will play the deciding third game tomorrow.

Tulsa Drillers 3 NW Arkansas Naturals 1
JC Sulbaran had his best start since joining the Royals franchise but it still wasn’t good enough to earn a win Sunday. Â Sulbaran did a better job of throwing strikes than he had in past starts hitting the zone 60 times in 93 pitches but he struggled with walks once again putting four hitters on via bases on balls. Â Those didn’t matter much as he was able to work around those and the five hits he allowed besides the solo home run he gave up in the 5th inning. Â That run plus a couple more unearned runs in the 8th off reliever Ryan Dennick were too much for the offense to overcome due to a 1 for 12 effort with runners in scoring position.

Potomac Nationals 4 Wilmington Blue Rocks 0 F/11
The Rocks lost a pitching duel Sunday when reliever Nick Graffeo gave up four runs in the 11th inning. Â Starter Andy Ferguson worked seven scoreless innings by working around seven singles and a walk, striking out six before turning things over to the bullpen. Â The first two members of the pen, Edwin Carl and Robinson Yambati, worked a perfect inning each before turning things to Graffeo. Â Neither team picked up an extra base hit until the 11th when Graffeo allowed a grand slam to Steven Souza to put the Nationals well ahead.

Kane County Cougars 5 Peoria Chiefs 4 F/10
The Cougars season is still hanging by a thread with a win and a Burlington loss Sunday. Â Starter Kyle Smith got let down by his defense with an error in the 1st giving up a pair of runs following an error by Justin Trapp. Â Smith didn’t let that slow him down much giving up five hits and a pair of walks in his 5.1 innings, striking out 7 to take a no decision. Â The Cougars season teetered on the edge following a Jorge Soler home run in the 8th but quickly struck back working Jack Lopez around following his single with a sac bunt, a wild pitch and a Dean Espy RBI base hit. Â The game would head to the 10th where back to back singles by Daniel Mateo and Espy pushed the winning runner into scoring position. Â With that opportunity Alex Llanos came through for Kane County with a two out single to score Mateo and keep the Cougars season alive. Â A win in the final Cougars game and a loss by the Burlington Bees would clinch a wild card birth.

Grand Junction Rockies 4 Idaho Falls Chukars 0
The Chukars couldn’t back up their Pioneer league pitcher of the year Sam Selman, handing him his fourth loss of the season. Â The left-hander gave up just one run on four hits while striking out five against no walks in his losing decision. Â The bullpen gave up three more runs but it would not matter as the Chukars put together just three hits and getting shut out in a combined effort by four different Rockies pitchers.
