Omaha Storm Chasers 7 Oklahoma City RedHawks 4

The Chasers got a decent start from Nate Adcock and some early and late punch to win their 48th game of the season.  The Chasers starter gave them six innings of 2 run allowing 4 hit and a walk while tossing 49 strikes among his 76 pitches and earn him his 4th win after a couple less than stellar outings his last two times out for Omaha.  The early punch for the Chasers came via Anthony Seratelli with his 13th home run of the year in the 2nd that put 2 on the board and again in the 4th with his 14th home run, a solo shot that pushed the lead to 4-0.  The lead was halved in the 4th and remained steady there until a RBI triple by Johnny Giavotella in the 9th and a 2 run home run by Clint Robinson pushed the lead to 7-2.  Those insurance runs came in handy as the RedHawks hit a pair of solo home runs in the 9th to finish off the scoring.  The win evened the Chasers road record on the year at 19-19.

NW Arkansas Naturals 3 Arkansas Travelers 2

The jump from High A Wilmington to AA NW Arkansas can be a trying one on Royals starting pitching prospects but that didn’t reflect in Sugar Ray Marimon’s game Monday. ¬†The Columbian right-hander was solid as usual in his AA debut giving the Naturals 6 innings of one run ball in which he gave up three singles and a solo home run to Angels speedy prospect Travis Witherspoon. ¬†Marimon was efficient as usual not walking a hitter while throwing 51 strikes in just 80 pitches prior to getting pulled with a 2-1 lead after allowing a single to start the 7th inning. ¬†Marimon remains a marvel with contact against improving his BAA and BABIP from .227 and .269 at Kane County to .206 and .251 this year for Wilmington. ¬†That trick will be a tough one to duplicate in the offensive AA league but a good first start is nice to see. ¬†Part of that 2-1 lead for the Naturals was a Lorenzo Cain solo home run in the 5th as the Royals center fielder continues to rehab his way back to Kansas City. ¬†That 2-1 lead would hold up until the top of the 9th when Angels #2 prospect Jean Segura took Ryan Dennick deep to break up the lefties perfect 2.1 innings. ¬†Despite that disappointment in the 9th the Naturals would bounce back in their half of the inning getting a two out rally on a Carlo Testa hit by pitch, Mario Lisson walk and Alex McClure single to win in walkoff fashion.

Wilmington Blue Rocks 7 Potomac Nationals 3

The Rocks offense has been a mess all year long and was a mess most of the night Monday getting no hit for 7 innings until exploding in the 8th inning. ¬†Down 2-0 the Rocks got a leadoff single from Angel Franco and a walk by Orlando Calixte to get Nationals starter Rob Wort out of the game. ¬†The Nationals relievers couldn’t quite match Wort’s performance giving up 3 runs in the 8th on two more walks and a single to give the Rocks the lead. ¬†That Nationals would tie the game in the bottom of the 8th but a big 9th would break the Rocks seven game losing streak. ¬†Newcomer Orlando Calixte would provide most of that offense in the 9th hitting a three run home run to put the Rocks in front while a double by Brett Eibner pushed the lead to 7-3. ¬†Reliever Matt Ridings would earn his first High A win getting three outs in the ninth after giving up the lead in the 8th without the Nationals getting a hit. ¬†Starter Yordano Ventura received a no decision despite working 7 innings of 2 run ball, striking out 7 in that time.

Beloit Snappers 4 Kane County Cougars 2

Neither team played much of a pretty game in the first game of their series with four combined errors, three running mistakes and a 2 for 17 performance with runners in scoring position with the Snappers pitching just a tad better to earn the win. ¬†The Cougars starter Aaron Brooks missed plenty of bats, striking out 7 in just 5 innings but his 7 hits and a walk allowed in that time lead to four Snappers runs and his eighth loss of the season. ¬†While Brooks performance wasn’t great it was the Cougars offense going 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position that did them in as they were able to collect just five singles, striking out 9 times and running into a pair of outs with leadoff man, Justin Trapp getting picked off once and caught stealing another time. ¬†June has been a brutal month on Trapp with the second baseman hitting just .131 in 16 games for the Cougars.

Bluefield Blue Jays 10 Burlington Royals 5

Jake Junis second start didn’t go quite as well as his first as the big right-hander gave up three extra base hits ¬†in 4 innings and his defense let him down for 3 unearned runs. ¬†Down 5-0 with those runs allowed by Junis the Royals climbed within a run thanks to a 4 run outburst in the fourth inning, 3 of which came via a Mark Threlkeld home run. ¬†Unfortunately the rookie league Royals would get no closer when four run ninth by the Blue Jays put the game away. ¬†2011 #5 overall pick Bubba Starling hit 3 home runs in batting practice and worked on running drills with the Royals coaching staff, he should be in the lineup very soon. ¬†Slick fielding shortstop Humberto Arteaga is holding his own offensively through six games with a six hits and a pair of doubles. ¬†That may not impress but I really believe that kid could be a dynamo at shortstop and any offensive skill will make him a Alcides Escobar type.

Idaho Falls Chukars 8 Ogden Raptors 6

The Chukars got plenty of help by the Raptors defense scoring 6 unearned runs thanks to 5 Ogden errors to win the first game of their three game series.  Starter Andrew Ferguson gave Idaho Falls 6 innings of 1 hit ball giving up just a 3rd inning home run and a walk in his time on the mound to earn his 1st win of the year. Eight of the nine Chukars in the lineup had hits including first baseman Rainier Bello who had a big day at the plate going 2 for 5 with a double and four driven in.  Youngsters Adalberto Mondesi and Elier Hernandez continue to hold their own getting three hits, scoring three runs and getting a double by Elier and a pair of stolen bases by Mondesi.

About The Author

Clint Scoles

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that. I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.

Binford had TJ in high school right??

According to Bob Sutton of the Burlington Times Binford’s arm was just general discomfort and he should be back in a few day, no need to rush him back.

I generally stick to those leagues unless they all underperform and someone in the Rookie leagues overperform. I picked Sandy Garces earlier in the year I think and considerd going with the DSL kid last night but Sugar’s start at a new level won over.

Gallagher’s hand was hit on a catcher’s interference, XRays were negative and he should be back in a few days.

Binford had some arm pain following the exhibition game haven’t heard anything yet. I’ll try to find out tonight.

Rodgers don’t think anything is wrong there just limiting a young guys innings

Zimmer probably starts things in July

  • PREGNANT ROLLERSKATE

Do you know what’s going on w/ Cameron Gallagher, Christian Binford, Collin Rodgers &/or an ETA for Zimmer????….thx in adv

  • ilroyalfan

Just curious. Do you always choose the hitter and pitcher of the day from the full season leagues? I was looking at the line for Miguel Almonte for the DSL Royals and it is unbelievable for the game.
