Yahoo’s Passan Picks Royals Second in AL Central

Yahoo’s Jeff Passan (yes that Passan from Royals-centric BooCano fame) pinned the Royals as his 17th ranked squad heading into spring training. By process of elimination, Passan has the Royals finishing as the runner-up in the American League Central this season behind the dynamic Detroit Tigers.

Passan waxes poetic about Wil Myers and how apparently James Shields isn’t Justin Veralnder (but who is?). Passan seems to leave quite a bit of wiggle room on his Shields stance, basically saying the Royals top pitcher will be scrutinized all year long. To cap off the thoughts of the new rotation, Passan is meh on Ervin Santana, and thinks Jeremy Guthrie’s deal may not be that bad.

He also goes on to praise Alcides Escobar, but avoids saying too much about Eric Hosmer or Mike Moustakas. For the Royals to get in contention late in the summer, each are key to Kansas City success.
