Happy Birthday To Former Royals Kanekoa Texeira & Steve Andrade
Often when I am with other likeminded Royals fans, we’ll often get into a friendly game of banter that involves trying to name a former Royals player that the other had completely forgot about, or doesn’t even remember. Well today just happens to be the 27th and 35th birthdays for former Royals pitchers Kanekoa Texeira and Steve Andrade.
Texeira is recent enough that most fans likely still remember him. He was selected off waivers during the middle of the 2010 season from the Seattle Mariners. He appeared in 33 games during his brief time in Kansas City before being placed on waivers and picked up the New York Yankees. Currently he is a free agent.
Andrade was essentially in the Royals organization for just two months in 2006, appearing in four games with the big league club. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits. He’d never appear in the majors again, and was out of baseball by the end of 2009.
Ironically, Andrade joined Rusty Kuntz as the only two alums of Cal State-Stanislaus to have reached the major leagues.
That 2006 Kansas City pitching staff featured other such household names like Adam Bernero, Chris Booker, and Steve Stemle. The year will likely most be remembered for Mark Redman making the All-Star team.
