BY THE NUMBERS: 9,121 — People who attended the Royals’ FanFest on Jan. 19.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “It was a good turnout. The fans seemed really excited about this year. I’m excited to be here. I’m excited for the opportunity to win some games.” — RHP James Shields, who was acquired in a trade last month from the Rays, at the Royals’ FanFest.

That is a pretty good one day turnout and kind of surprising the Royals are thinking about turning that type of audience away the next few seasons.

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games.
