Beating a Dead Horse, Sporting News Tabs Royals as a 2013 Surprise
For the third season in the last five years the Royals are tabbed as one of the teams that could surprise ala whatever team did it the year before. First it was the Rays, then the Nationals and now the O’s but since 2009 national publications have taken keen interest in tabbing the Royals as a lookout team.
This years version was semi obvious after the trade for James Shields as SN explains.
Trading for James Shields is one of those assurances considering he has a 3.15 ERA over the last two seasons, and he did so in the lumberyards of the AL East. For Sheilds the Royals parted with maybe the best hitter in the minors, Wil Myers, showing just how desperate the team is to be this season’s big surprise.

We’ll get to see if Shields and company fair better than the previous Royals teams to shock the world.
