2010 Royals Draft – Jason Adam P – Blue Valley Northwest

With the fifth pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, the Royals have selected Jason Adam, a local prospect out of Blue Valley Northwest. Adam is 6′ 4″ and around 225 with a blazing fastball. He was named a 2009 East Kansas League All-Star and a 2009 All Sun Baseball Team honorable mention last season. He has a lot of room to grow and can improve his power dramatically over the next couple of seasons in the minors. The consensus amongst most baseball scouts was that Adam would be a second round selection, so the Royals may have caught a huge break by him falling to the fifth round and can get him to sign.

Adam has verbally committed to Missouri.

About The Author

Bob Stalder

Born and raised in the Kansas City area, I was fortunate enough to have a Grandfather that was a huge Baseball fan. He first introduced me to the Kansas City Athletics when I was only 3 years old. He took me to many early Royals games in old Municipal Stadium and I was lucky enough to see some of the greatest moments in Royals history (so far). I am a die-hard Royals fan and a walking encyclopedia of Royals History. I take great pride in that.

I played against Stanek this year, and it just so happens that I play with Mr. Bubba Starling..

I have been watching him on TV and I have to tell you that I really like this kid. He seems to be a smart kid and you could tell he was blown away that the royals took him. I agree that I dont know how a pitcher turns down a contract with the way arm problems can destroy you so quick.

Round 5, Jason Adam, RHP, Blue Valley Northwest, Kan:
Most mock-drafts had Adam going well before the fifth round, but a subpar performance toward the end of his senior season hurt his draft stock. The Royals took the Kansas-native in the fifth round and scouts believe he has the size and ability to start in the Major Leagues.

Greg any chance Stanek goes onto Arkansas instead so we can draft him the next time around?

This guy is legit. I play for Bishop Miege and we played him this last year. great fastball and filthy curve. he could have gone as a 3B too…he had about a 500ft bomb of me

I didn’t realize that his velocity dropped as the season went on. Where did his velocity start and where did it finish? I saw him pitching better as the season went along. Did it drop because he was over used this spring?

Keith Law said it would take a million to sign him.

His velocity dropped quite a bit as the season went on….so did that not help

HS pitchers have every reason to try and sign a contract if they are offered something remotely tempting. They have more injury concern than position players and pitchers can loose a lot of money if the college team slides them to the bullpen.

  • TJ

I heard signability. Apparently his parents have some money and so he’s only going to sign above slot. He’s a legitimate 2nd-3rd round talent (KLaw had him like #80ish).

There a reason why this slided? Injury? Signability concerns?
