Omaha Storm Chasers 11 Memphis Redbirds 3

The Chasers offense exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings of this one to salvage a split in the four game series and take a win prior to heading back on the road.¬† Starter Jake Odorizzi didn’t have his best stuff, allowing 10 hits in 6 innings, but it was enough to earn a win thanks to those 10 early runs.¬† The Chasers first five hitters reached in the¬†1st inning and the first six reached in the 3rd as the team scored 10 runs despite just one extra base hit, a 1 run double by Tony Abreu in the bottom of the 1st.¬† The Chasers lead stands at 14 games in the division following Fridays win.

NW Arkansas Naturals 1 Arkansas Travelers 0

As a Royals fan I feel like Chris Dwyer’s new nickname should be Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face on Batman cause we just never know what the lefty is gonna give the Naturals.¬† Sometimes the Naturals get the 6 or 7 walk starter that showed up May 4th and June 1st and sometimes they get the untouchable lefty like in the no hitter he was apart of May 10th.¬† Lucky for NW Arkansas they got the good Dwyer on this night as the lefty outdueled Arkansas righthander John Hellweg to give the Naturals a narrow 1-0 win.¬† On his game for all 7 innings Dwyer threw 62 strikes in 92 pitches, striking out 7 with only 2 hits allowed and completing a start without a walk allowed for the first time since April 28th.¬† The Naturals and Dwyer would take the lead in the bottom of the 6th thanks to a wild pitch from Hellweg that scored Yem Prades.¬† Relievers Jon Keck and Patrick Keating finished off the final two innings to earn the Hold and the save.

Clinton LumberKings 6 Kane County Cougars 1

The Cougars got on the board first with one run in the first inning to take the lead but from their not much went in their favor.¬† That 1-0 lead didn’t last long when the LumberKings leadoff hitter doubled and scored on a single by the next hitter quickly tying the game up.¬† Two hitters later the LumberKings homered to take a 3-1 lead and scored again later in the first on¬†a Jack Lopez error to make 4-1 after just 1 inning.¬† That was plenty for the Clinton pitching staff who limited Kane County to just 3 hits the rest of the way to cruise to an easy 6-1 win.¬† Jack Lopez went 0 for 4 in his first Single A game for the Royals affiliate.

Burlington Royals 6 Elizabethton Twins 5

Burlington put on their rally hats Friday night to capture a late comeback win over the Twins.  The Royals trailed 5-2 following a tough start from Yender Caramo (4.1,6 H, 5 R) the bullpen came in shut the door and gave the offense an opportunity to make a game of things.  The Royals trimmed the lead to just one run in the 6th with solo home runs by Chris Elder and Patrick Leonard.  The bullpens quieted things down until the bottom of the 9th when a pair of walks put the tying run into scoring position.   With the tying runner in scoring position and another runner on a fielding error by Elizabethton right fielder Adam Walker would turn a tie game into a walkoff win for the Royals after catcher Beau Maggi scored all the way from first.  Burlington relievers Mark Peterson and Freddy Rodriguez worked the final 4.2 innings scoreless allowing just one hit in that span.

About The Author

Clint Scoles

I grew up on the mean gravel roads of Iowa where I started my love for baseball from the age of 2. George Brett and the voice of Denny Matthews deepened my love even more for the Royals as my father and I spent summers listening to the team on our deck or in the car on our way to or from my little league and high school games. Sports was always the common bond that my father and I enjoyed and the Royals were in the center of that. I currently live in La Vista with my wife, two sons, two dogs and a pair of gross cats where we are grinding through until we can move somewhere warm when we retire. I own Casino Cab Company and Bluffs Affordable Auto Repair in Council Bluffs trying to build my 1% empire. If you are in the area you can find me at Omaha Storm Chasers games on most nights or just follow me on twitter @ClintScoles.
